Examples of Anecdotes

"I Can Make It Happen"

History abounds with tales of experts who were convinced that the ideas, plans, and projects of others could never be achieved. However, accomplishment came to those who said, "I can make it happen."
The Italian sculptor Agostino d'Antonio worked diligently on a large piece of marble. Unable to produce his desired masterpiece, he lamented, "I can do nothing with it." Other sculptors also worked this difficult piece of marble, but to no avail. Michelangelo discovered the stone and visualized the possibilities in it. His "I-can-make-it-happen" attitude resulted in one of the world's masterpieces - David.
The experts of Spain concluded that Columbus's plans to discover a new and shorter route to the West Indies was virtually impossible. Queen Isabella and King Ferdinand ignored the report of the experts. "I can make it happen," Columbus persisted. And he did. Everyone knew the world was flat, but not Columbus. The Nina, the Pinta, the Santa Maria, along with Columbus and his small band of followers, sailed to "impossible" new lands and thriving resources.
Even the great Thomas Alva Edison discouraged his friend, Henry Ford, from pursuing his fledgling idea of a motorcar. Convinced of the worthlessness of the idea, Edison invited Ford to come and work for him. Ford remained committed and tirelessly pursued his dream. Although his first attempt resulted in a vehicle without reverse gear, Henry Ford knew he could make it happen. And, of course, he did.
"Forget it," the experts advised Madame Curie. They agreed radium was a scientifically impossible idea. However, Marie Curie insisted, "I can make it happen."
Let's not forget our friends Orville and Wilbur Wright. Journalists, friends, armed forces specialists, and even their father laughed at the idea of an airplane. "What a silly and insane way to spend money. Leave flying to the birds," they jeered. "Sorry," the Wright brothers responded. "We have a dream, and we can make it happen." As a result, a place called Kitty Hawk, North Carolina, became the setting for the launching of their "ridiculous" idea.
Finally, as you read these accounts under the magnificent lighting of your environment, consider the plight of Benjamin Franklin. He was admonished to stop the foolish experimenting with lighting. What an absurdity and waste of time! Why, nothing could outdo the fabulous oil lamp. Thank goodness Franklin knew he could make it happen. You too can make it happen!

A Tragedy Or a Blessing?

Years ago in Scotland, the Clark family had a dream. Clark and his wife worked and saved, making plans for their nine children and themselves to travel to the United States. It had taken years, but they had finally saved enough money and had gotten passports and reservations for the whole family on a new liner to the United States.
The entire family was filled with anticipation and excitement about their new life. However, seven days before their departure, the youngest son was bitten by a dog. The doctor sewed up the boy but hung a yellow sheet on the Clarks' front door. Because of the possibility of rabies, they were being quarantined for fourteen days.
The family's dreams were dashed. They would not be able to make the trip to America as they had planned. The father, filled with disappointment and anger, stomped to the dock to watch the ship leave - without the Clark family. The father shed tears of disappointment and cursed both his son and God for their misfortune.
Five days later, the tragic news spread throughout Scotland - the mighty Tittanic had sunk. The unsinkable ship had sunk, taking hundreds of lives with it. The Clark family was to have been on that ship, but because the son had been bitten by a dog, they were left behind in Scotland.
When Mr. Clark heard the news, he hugged his son and thanked him for saving the family. He thanked God for saving their lives and turning what he had felt was a tragedy into a blessing.

Complain! Complain! Complain!

It takes a disciplined spirit to endure the monastery on Mount Serat in Spain. One of the fundamental requirements of this religious order is that the young men must maintain silence. Opportunities to speak are scheduled once every two years, at which time they are allowed to speak only two words.
One young initiate in this religious order, who had completed his first two years of training, was invited by his superior to make his first two-word presentation. "Food terrible," he said. Two years later the invitation was once again extended. The young man used this forum to exclaim, "Bed lumpy." Arriving at his superior's office two years later he proclaimed, "I quit." The superior looked at this young monk and said, "You know, it doesn't surprise me a bit. All you've done since you arrived is complain, complain, complain.
Exaggerated? Maybe. What if you were asked to share two words that describe your Life? would your focus be the lumps, bumps, and unfairness, or are you committed to dwell on those things that are good, right, and lovely?

Latest Trend

The Latest Eyewear Trends

For nearly 30 years,  a certain organization named Nationwide Vision has made it a priority to help  their patients find eyeglasses that improve their lives by helping them to correct their vision, but in recent years, glasses have become so much more than that. Now there are so many different eyewear options and brands that their patients can choose a pair (or two or three) that reflect their fashion sense and personality.
Working to give you crystal clear vision will always be their number one goal, but they thought they would help out a bit on the fashion side too by profiling designer eyeglasses and some of the latest fashion trends in men’s and women’s eyewear.

Women’s Eyewear Trends

Trends in women’s eyewear can vary by the year or even by the season, and if you’re preparing your wardrobe for fall, they recommend taking a new look at your eyeglasses as well. Designers like Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs, and Giorgio Armani are all putting their hats in the ring to offer eyewear as stylish as their clothing lines. Some of the latest trends in designer eyeglasses include:
- Modern Prep: Watercolor inspired frames are all the rage these days, with floral effects that create a ladylike allure that feels just as comfortable with a suit or a sundress.

Spirited Necessities: You need your glasses every day, but that doesn’t mean that they must be everyday eyewear. Personalities are flaring to the surface with brilliant bold colors like pink, purple, and tangerine in straightforward patterns.

- Enigmatic Perspective: Whether animal inspired or simply plain black or classic tortoiseshell, dark and mysterious will always be in style.

Throwback Designs: The designs of the 50s, 60s, and 70s are coming back, mostly in browns, reds, and oranges. Defined brow bars and metallic fixture are just a few of the staples of this retro look.

Men’s Eyewear Trends

Like most aspects of fashion, men’s choices are somewhat more limited and subdued than those offered in women’s eyewear, but there is still plenty to choose from.
- Dark and Classic: A refined color scheme, flat tops, and clean lines paired with perforated materials or metal etching give this men’s eyewear trend the feel of a classic look with a modern touch.

High Energy: Bold colors are in style for men this season as well, with lightweight materials and durability often taking a high priority. Designers like Prada and ProDesign are bringing every color under the rainbow to men’s high-energy eyewear.

Patterned and Preppy: Designers are taking the classic silhouettes of eyewear from the 60s and 70s and adding striped or plaid prints to them—some subdued, some very bold—to give a new meaning to the idea of geek chic.

Tutorial

How to create our own nail art?

Do you want to find out a little more about nail art? Have you seen pictures of different nail art and now want to design your own amazing nails? Then I hope this tutorial can help you.
This is an easy to follow tutorials - written for you to help you practice. Yes – there is some learning involved - but it's fun. And with new techniques being invented each year - you'll keep learning.
Then, before you know it, you will be coming up with designs of your own. Or perhaps you will be happy with being the envy of your friends because your nails always look great!

So, what are the things we need for our nail art? Here they are ....

  • A base coat
  • A top coat
  • Use any two nail paints that you like.
  • A white polish
  • A dotting tooth pick
The first step is to prepare your nail.

- Properly file your nails
- Push cuticles with the help of an orange stick
- Buff nails
- Make sure that there is no moisture in your nails.

2. The second step to getting beautiful nail art is to apply your base coat. Base coats are usually clear or bluish in color, and can be purchased wherever nail polish is sold. They protect your nails from getting stained or damaged by paint and other nail art materials.

3. The third step starts once the base coat dries completely. Apply a coat of any color of nail polish on the fingers. Repeat this twice.

4. To create a chevron tip,
  • Take the polish ( any color) and stroke it in diagonal position from the left side of the nail.
  • Fill in the remaining part of the nail below the diagonal
  • Repeat the same stroke from the right side of the nail. Now let it dry and if necessary, repeat the process to apply a second coat. Remember, on the ring finger, create the chevron tip using pink polish. This is what your nails would look like thereafter.

5. The next step is to use a toothpick and dip it in the white polish. Place some big white dots on tips of your nails. The picture below showcases how the dots would look .Give a good finishing touch to the dots. Dip a toothpick in pink polish and draw a dot inside each white dot on all fingers except the ring finger. Use a purple polish for the ring finger. The picture below shows how the dots would look.

6.  Now we are done with the creating part. For the last bit, use a polish remover with a thin brush to clean up the cuticle stains. This step is necessary to give a neat look.

When you visit, you can see terraces still being built today. The locals often describe the terraces as the largest man made structure created without forced labor. If each terrace were laid end to end, they would stretch almost 14,000 miles. They were declared a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1995 and placed on the endangered list in 2001.

The marine park covers over 968 km² and is home to over 300 coral species and 400 fish species, rivaling the diversity of the Great Barrier Reef. The few pieces of atoll which are above water are also home to a large number of seabirds. It was inscribed on the UNESCO list of World Heritage sites in 1993.

Third stop ... Chocolate Hills, Bohol

The Chocolate Hills are located on the Island of Bohol. They are over 1,200 hills, covering over 50 km² and get their name because the grass which covers the hills turns brown during the dry season. The hills are almost all conical in shape and made of limestone. Many people have believed that they were human creations. Geologists are not entirely sure how they were created. Theories include erosion of limestone, volcanic uplift, and accretion of limestone around basalt fragments from a volcanic eruption. The government of the Philippines has declared it one of their flagship tourist destinations. The Chocolate Hills are so central to the people of Bohol, they appear on the flag of the province.

Fourth stop ...Taal Volcano

Taal volcano has a unique distinction in the world. It contains the largest island, inside of a lake, which is on an island, which is inside a lake, which is on an island. (got that?) Taal is a very active volcano which has killed over 5,000 people in recorded history. It has been named one of 16 decade volcanoes in the world worthy of special study. Inside the Taal caldera is Lake Tall, which is a 25km across. The lake is know for its high sulfur content and is also home to many endemic species of freshwater fish. It rises 2462 m over Legazpi City in the province of Albay.

The Underground River is not only a UNESCO World Heritage site, but was named as one of the Earth’s New7Wonders of Nature. The Underground River is the longest subterranean river in the world, extending 8.2km underground. Over 2km is accessible to the public. The surrounding National Park includes many species including monitor lizards, the blue-naped parrot and macaque monkeys. The park is located 50km north of the city of Puerto Princessa on the island of Palawan.

Boracay is a small island approximately 200 miles south of Manila and is very close to the major island of Panay. Its white sand beaches and direct flights from all over Asia, have made it one of the Philippines most popular tourist destinations. Out of Tune

Why did her daughter hate her singing?

Music had always been a big part of her life, so when she became mother, singing to her baby came as naturally to her as kissing her sweet head. Everyday she would sing to her lullabies, nursery rhymes that her mother had sung to her too when she was still a child.
They snuggle into their favorite chair as she her little baby. She would gaze deeply into her eyes, her tiny hands upon her skin. She loved it and would coo along with her before she could even talk.
Then suddenly at about the age of three, she stopped liking it.Each time she started to sing with her baby, it would cry. The lullabies and softer tunes would turned her off. She'd wail loudly and atonally. So the mother stopped.
After a few months or so, she try again hoping that its just been " a phase" She was devastated. Never before had she made anyone cry because of her music.

Some days this felt like the worst rejection she had ever known. The child wasn't  pushing away the music - she was pushing her mother away. Her reaction stung, like a slap.
I should mention that however the child is coping with "hypersensitivity." This means that she hears, sees, smells and tastes more intensely that others do. naturally, the mother use her child's sensitive hearing to help rationalize her acute reaction to her singing. As the year passed though, the child develop a love for pop music, begging her to find rock n' roll stations on the radio. Those kind of music didn't seem to bother her. on the contrary, the louder the better.

Whenever it is time for the child to go to bed, her mother would ask her why she cry every time she sings, but find it nice to listen to loud kind of songs, but the answer was always the same " I don't know."
One night, as she was putting her daughter to bed, she started singing thinking it would help her child to sleep faster, singing her favorite old song ....
" my funny valentine, sweet comic valentine, you make me smile with my heart ...."

She never made it to the second line. The child buried her face to her pillow and started to cry.
Of course she stop singing immediately, but she also felt terrible. Wordlessly, she held her in her arms and rocked her gently. After a  while the child stop crying.
"Baby" she said, "I want you to take as much time as you need but try to tell me why you cry when I sing to you."

They stayed quiet for a very long time and the the child quietly said, " mom, its too beautiful"
She had wrongly assumed that her child's reaction was he result of her hypersensitivity when it was just her daughter being herself - and being much like of her. A touching song on the radio can have her tearing up. The elevate , choked up  feeling can occur without warning; at the school play, or at night when her husband and her go in to look at they sleeping angel - their sweet, sensitive daughter.

 Example of Rhyme Royal

More Dreams to Row

the moon trickles down casting light afar,
her tasseled hair nipping on true hearts pressed
surrounding a cape of pure coupled stars
while tender fingers hunger for her chest
oh, can there be a scene like this more blessed
if life could pluck more days, let my age withdraw
come love, for we have boat rides more to row

My Own Example of Rhyme Royal

Always At Your Side

if I could heaven I would hand to you
I can but offer a shoulder or hand
or maybe a kind word to see you through
times so difficult you cannot withstand
when you're isolated by others banned
just look this way and find me at your side
perhaps your sadness we can override.

Politics

The Perfect President

What makes a strong leader?

No one has the right to grade a president who has not sat in his chair, examine the mails and other information that came across in his desk and learned why he made his decisions.
But voters have to make sorts of judgement every election as they weigh the candidates for the country's top job.

What qualities matter most to us as we head into the  voting booth?

Most of the voters like the quality of a politicians who " say what they mean and mean what say". People feel that openly expressing and acting on personal conviction is a very good thing.
Voters also admire the trait of a politician that "never shades the truth". Total honesty is almost always a virtue of course.
Unfailing loyalty to staffs is also very important quality of a politician, yet presidents make a mistake if they try too hard to protect their people. History tends to show that Presidents are weakened and the presidency deminish when they drains their political capital depending valued friends and devoted aides.
Voters also admire politicians that are good looking, but we also forget that notion because they are not all like you and me. They are risks takers, bigtime people who have to calculate every word, every movement, every commitment to figure what effect it might have on the world, nation, and the people standing in front of them.
We have to admire them not because they are good-looking person but because our whole lives somehow depends on them, it can blow up over their one mistake.
These are just some of the qualities that I see voters admire whenever the election comes, so, where does all it leaves us? I think it makes more sense to acknowledge the toughness of the job of a president. I also believe that there is a separate qualities that reveal the most important thing of all: not what a president will do or say from one day to next, but where he or she will lead the country over the long run. The Presidency is not only about one person, it is an act of faith on our part that one human can handle the the job.
